When you begin a run, you should feel neither starved nor stuffed. You don't want to eat immediately before running because it may lead to cramping. Running on an empty stomach may cause you to run out of energy. You best bet is to eat a light snack or meal about 1 1/2 to 2 hours before you start running.

Choose something high in carbohydrates and lower in fat, fiber, and protein. Some examples of good pre-workout fuel include: a bagel with peanut butter; a banana and an energy bar; or a bowl of cold cereal with a cup of milk. Stay away from rich, very fatty, or high-fiber foods, as they may cause

If you like diary check this out

If you're lactose intolerant, you may experience cramping or other digestive issues if you consume dairy products before a run. But most people shouldn't have a problem with them, as long as you make sure you're not eating closer than 1 1/2 to two hours before a run.

If you do experience GI distress or runner's trots after consuming dairy products, check with your doctor to see if you might be lactose intolerant.

I have been running for years, as well as refereeing soccer for 9 years, and bringing breakfast back up is a huge fear of mine in either scenario. I usually just do not eat before a 5K race or if I am in the middle for a soccer match. I see people eating stuff before races or before matches and all I can think is that they are going to get sick. In general I try not to eat within 3-4 hours of my daily runs. I had no idea something like a bagel with PB would be okay. Sweet! Thanks!
